Thousands of applicants for Resident Internal Medicine (MIR) and the other disciplines of the Specialized Health Training (FSE) are being examined since this Saturday, in a call marked by the controversy surrounding the decision of the Ministry of Health not to offer a second opportunity to take the exam for those who cannot attend due to having been infected with SARS-CoV-2.

The State Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM)

had demanded that Health articulate a solution

for the MIR applicants who are positive and cannot appear for the tests this weekend.

"The grievance faced by opponents who are deprived of assistance due to a positive result can encourage some who choose not to communicate it and attend anyway, putting the rest of the applicants at risk," CESM warned on Friday.

Faced with this situation, the Confederation argued that, if it is possible to facilitate the assistance of those infected in matters such as elections,

it should also be possible for an exam of such importance

, enabling, for example, a specific classroom in which these applicants can present themselves. Europe Press reports.

For his part, the national representative of Young Doctors of the Collegiate Medical Organization (OMC), Domingo Sánchez, called this Saturday to be calm until the data on the impact of Covid-19 on exams is known.

Sánchez stressed that it

will be difficult to quantify the exact impact

, but he is confident that data such as the dropout rate will make it possible to see the differences with previous years to see if they produce notable increases, reports Servimedia.

Absence of solutions

Regarding the absence of measures or solutions to guarantee that all applicants have the right to be examined, the representative of Young Doctors expressed that he has not yet found an explanation, although he reflected that it may have to do with the fact that the bidding for the examinations is carried out more than a year in advance.

Regarding the number of places offered, which this year amounts to 8,188 for the MIR, Sánchez stressed

the importance of continuing to increase the number of places

, since "there is a clear need."

However, he noted that this cannot imply "losing training guarantees", since it is necessary that they always take place in accredited centers and "not all hospitals are trained for it".

The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, explained last Wednesday that the FSE test,

attended by 28,714 people for a total of 10,634 places

, is "unique", and stressed that, "once the exam is done, the questions are publish".

"It is an exam in which the members of the delegated commissions have been working for many months," emphasized the person in charge of Health, explaining that, once the test is over, "the questions that are prepared in the previous seven months are uploaded and published," so "the only way to guarantee the system is for it to be a single test," he argued.
