changes its formula a bit with a free open world and multi

  • A live series is scheduled for early 2022 and could bring new players

Announced at E3 2018, the new

Halo Infinite

was to accompany the release of the

next gen

consoles

and therefore of the Xbox Series X / S.

Quite a symbol for this franchise born with and inseparable from the Microsoft console.

Except that with the pandemic and developers forced to work at home, the game has fallen behind, and not just a little.

A whole year.

The game therefore misses the launch of the new Xboxes at the end of 2020 but arrives exactly for the 20 years of the franchise, and is available since December 8 on XBox Series, Xbox One, PC, and included in Xbox Game Pass.

A return to basics in the form of a best of

Officially the sixth main game, a sequel to

Halo 5: Guardians

released in 2015 and the third installment of the Reclaimer saga since the studio 343 Industries took over the reins of the franchise from Bungie… How did you get lost?

Not (too) worry,

Halo Infinite

is also intended as a homecoming in the form of best of.

New players may be lost in the

Halo

mythology

as Master Chief in the vastness of space at the start of the game. But they will don the Master Chief armor like a slipper to save humanity and the mysterious Zeta Halo ring of the Banned, a coalition of alien races.

The multi mode is freed from the single player game

A pure FPS model,

Halo

finds here the culmination of its gameplay, with adjustments and evolutions, such as the addition of a grapple that brings dynamism, verticality and depth. This was needed for a game that is no longer content with corridors and arenas but takes place with the world and the sky open.

Halo Infinite

is indeed a semi

open world

, the first of the franchise, with the classics of the genre, main quest and side missions, as well as an immersion mainly provided by the soundtrack. Not that the game is lagging behind graphically and technically, it's even playable at up to 120fps on Series X, but it's not as spectacular as a

next gen

blockbuster might have expected

.

Like

Call of Duty

and

Battelfield

,

Halo is

betting a lot, but not all, on multiplayer, which, to use Microsoft's expression, “frees itself” from the single player campaign.

Indeed, the multi of

Halo Infinite

, again this is a first, is a

free-to-play

available since November 15, with several game modes, a Spartan Academy for novices, a Battle Pass for microtransactions, and still that formidable gameplay.

The

Halo

franchise

seems to be putting all the odds in its favor to welcome new players.

For example, the spectators of the future live series scheduled for early 2022?
