At just eleven months, a little snowboarder in China caused a sensation on the grounds of the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Little Yuji, who is nicknamed Beibei (“Baby”), already has countless fans online, and her videos have been viewed millions of times on Chinese Internet platforms.

Yuji is by far the smallest winter athlete on the slopes of the Thaiwoo ski area in northern China, where the world's best athletes will compete in cross-country skiing, ski jumping and snowboarding from February.

According to their own statements, the parents noticed that their daughter is a snowboarding ace two weeks ago on a skiing holiday.

"We put her in her shoes and found that she managed to get up," Yuji's mother, Fan Xueyin, told AFP.

"Then we took her to a gentle slope and watched her slide down."

As soon as she got on the board, "she patted herself on the legs and started giggling," said Fan. Her daughter was "not afraid at all and she's having fun".

Recordings of the young snowboarder caused a sensation on the Internet.

Since Yuji is still too young to control her direction or speed, a parent is always close by to catch her.

Yuji's father, Wang Shu, is a winter sports novice himself - but since he saw his daughter's talent, he wants to become a professional snowboard trainer so that he can teach her when she is older.
