It was during a press conference on November 9 that the Dutch journalist Ingeborg Beugel asked about darkened refugee deportations that the Greek Prime Minister raised his voice.

What the journalist referred to are so-called "pushbacks", to deport migrants without being given the chance to seek asylum.

- When will you stop lying about pushbacks and the refugee situation in Greece ?, Beugel asked the Prime Minister during the press conference.

Several media outlets have previously reported that Greece has engaged in "pushbacks", something that the country's prime minister has denied.

When asked at the press conference, Mitsotakis is noticeably upset:

- I will not tolerate you insulting me or the Greek people with accusations for no reason at all, Mitsotakis answered Beugel's question.

Claimed that the journalist lied

Mitsotakis also said during the press conference that Beugel lied about having visited the islands on which she based her question.

After the Dutch journalist went on to claim that she had visited Samos, among other places, a loud debate erupted.

"You have never been to Samos, you have never been to Samos," Mitsotakis told Beugel.

Forced to flee the country

The events of the press conference have led to the journalist being threatened and physically attacked.

Among other things, Beugel had a stone thrown at him the day after the press conference after being recognized on the street.

As a result, she has now, two weeks later, fled Greece.
