Yesterday, the Voices of Future Generations Middle East competition celebrated the winners of the international writing competition, during a special ceremony at Zabeel Ladies Club in Dubai.

The Writing Initiative was launched globally in 2015, under the auspices of UNESCO, and in 2019 it was launched in the Middle East, as it looks to promote awareness of sustainability and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Emirates Literature Foundation is organizing the regional competition on behalf of Sheikha Hessa bint Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the initiative's goodwill ambassador in the Middle East.

Sheikha Hessa bint Hamdan expressed her happiness with the competition, and with the creative creativity of the children, adding: “I am happy to see how the competition has inspired many children, and motivated them to think creatively about the sustainable development goals, and to be inspired by sustainable solutions for the environment, in addition to thinking about the impact that we can make. on our planet.”

The competition, which is intended for children aged between eight and 12 years, encourages writing adventure stories of characters who have overcome challenges and been able to form a more tolerant and sustainable world, and the best entries are published in a group in both Arabic and English, on an international level. The 2021 competition received more than 900 entries, with an annual increase of 50%. The Talented Writers Program comes as a new addition to the competition this year. It is a talent development program in which the jury selects 50 creative writers from among the young writers participating in the competition, to receive additional training from professional editors, and they will have the option to resubmit their entries in the next session.

In the Arabic language category, stories won the order: “Banana and the Ghaf Tree” by Abdullah Ismail Abu Shabab, Crescent International School, Khalifa City Abu Dhabi, and “Safa and the angry sea” by Saba Awad Muhammad Al-Masaed, Buthaina Bint Noman, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and “Beyond the Secret of the Village” by Mezna Najeeb, Millennium Primary School for Girls, Dubai.

In the English language category, stories won: “The Lighthouse” by Abrar Sirohi, (The Home Study Association in Dubai and the Northern Emirates), the Emirate of Dubai, and “Sahana and Food Sustainability” by Kripa Dixit, Uptown International School, Dubai, and “Inspiration of the Desperate”, by Fatima’s care. Fayez, GEMS United Indian School, Abu Dhabi.

For her part, the Executive Director and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Literature Foundation, Isabelle Abulhoul, expressed her happiness with the initiative and the participating children, adding: “We are proud to have a role in the initiative. Children are the future, and they will inherit the planet, and stories can change the world, so this is the The perfect way for many children, to channel all their passion and talents to build a better tomorrow.”
