The departmental direction of the protection of the populations (DDPP) of the Alpes-Maritimes calls the inhabitants of the department "with the greatest vigilance" vis-a-vis the telephone canvassing.

In the viewfinder in particular, "ephemeral furniture companies, known to target the elderly and use deceptive and particularly aggressive commercial practices."

In a press release, the prefecture indicates that several residents have recently been the subject of such practices.

They were asked, among other things, to “go to a furniture store to collect a gift and participate in a lottery”.

Other signs can alert on these dubious approaches such as the "price of products on display artificially inflated [...] to make consumers believe that they are getting a good deal", but also "a constant pressure exerted by sellers [...] to encourage consumers to buy a piece of furniture "or" failure to comply with the 14-day withdrawal period [...] and obstacle to the exercise of this right by consumers (same day delivery with resumption of the old furniture to give the impression that they can no longer retract).

"

Anyone considering themselves a victim of such practices can contact the investigators of the DDPP des Alpes-Maritimes, by mail (CADAM - 147 boulevard du Mercantour - BT. Mont des Merveilles - 06286 Nice CEDEX 3) by telephone (04 93 72 28 00) or by email (ddpp@alpes-maritimes.gouv.fr).
