The Chinese company "Ming Yang Smart Energy" is said to be on the verge of dethroning General Electric.

Indeed, the company has just presented its giant wind turbine project at sea, reports

, this Thursday.

As tall as the Eiffel Tower and equipped with blades each the length of a football field, this installation would become the largest wind turbine in the world.

To date, the largest wind turbine is in the port of Rotterdam, where it was installed in 2019. Designed by General Electric, it would be able to power a household for two days, thanks to a single turn of the blade.

However, the Chinese wind turbine could do much better.

With its 16Mgw, it could alone power nearly 20,000 homes.

A Chinese manufacturer intense to build the worlds largest offshore wind turbine - 16 MW - so far the biggest announced.

242 meter diameter rotor and 118-meter long wing.

Several French projects in development

In addition, these giant offshore wind turbines would reduce the price of wind power, and therefore carbon-free, by 2050 thanks to lower installation, maintenance and connection costs. The future Chinese wind turbine should see the light of day within two years. In this area, France is lagging behind, despite a significant maritime space. The Hexagon has only one floating wind turbine installed off the Croisic.

Several projects are however in development, namely four floating farms, including three in the Mediterranean, and seven offshore wind farms which should see the light of day between 2022 and 2024. The first should be installed off Saint-Brieuc, Saint-Nazaire, Fécamp and Courseulles.

Ultimately, the objective is that offshore wind power represents, by 2050, 25% of electricity production in France.
