The largest man living in the United States has died according to his family, as US media reported on Monday.

The Ukrainian Igor Vovkovinskiy, with a height of 2.35 meters, was 38 years old.

His mother shared on Facebook that her son died of a heart condition in a hospital on Friday.

Vovkovinskiy came to Rochester, Minnesota, USA for medical reasons in 1989 as a child.

He was being treated for a tumor that had caused him to release excessive growth hormones.

In 2010 he was named the tallest living man in the United States by the Guinness Book of Records, as the New York Post reported.

He made headlines when he wore a t-shirt that read, "World's Greatest Obama Supporter" at an event hosted by ex-President Barack Obama.

The Turk Sultan Kösen holds the title of the greatest living person in the world.

According to Guinness, the record holder is 2.51 meters tall.
