On Wednesday, July 21, the official teaser of the full-length animated spin-off of The Witcher series, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, appeared on the network.

The original project with Henry Cavill in the title role tells about the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, who is engaged in the destruction of various monsters for money.

Before him, Vesemir, another witcher and future mentor of Geralt, performed the same task.

The animation tape is dedicated to Vesemir's history.

In the story, Vesemir enjoys her job and the opportunities she gets by doing what others cannot.

However, when the Continent is in danger, the hero has to reconsider his attitude to his occupation.

It is expected that the film will tell the story of the origin and formation of Vesemir.

The published video creates a general idea of the film and the character of the main character (he is presented as cocky and playful).

Also in the teaser, several battles of Vesemir are demonstrated and a sorceress appears, a descendant of one of the first magicians of the Tetra Continent.

Among other minor characters who will become part of the plot of the tape are the warrior Deglan and the noblewoman, the king's adviser Lady Zerbst.

Unlike the original series, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is not based on any of Andrzej Sapkowski's novels.

The project promises fans a lot of new information that will complement the popular franchise.

The main character of the film will speak in the voice of Theo James, known for his roles in the films Divirgent and Underworld: Awakening.

He also voiced the young Vesemir in one of the episodes of the game series.

Also working on the project are Lara Pulver (Sherlock), Graham McTavish (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) and Mary McDonnell (Independence Day).

The scriptwriter of the project is Bo DeMaio, who previously worked with a number of other authors on the script for The Witcher.

The showrunner of the original project Lauren Schmidt Hissrick is also producing the tape.

The quality of the animation is the responsibility of Studio Mir, which has contributed to the production of Avatar: The Legend of Aang, The Legend of Korra and Voltron: The Legendary Defender.

The film will premiere on August 23 on Netflix, months before the second season of The Witcher videogame.

Its release is scheduled for December 17th.

In the new episodes, Geralt brings Ciri to Kaer Morhen, where one of the witcher schools is located, in the hope of protecting the young princess from the power lurking in her.

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is not the only project designed to expand Andrzej Sapkowski's universe.

A year ago, a six-part spin-off of The Witcher, The Witcher Origins, was announced.

Its action will unfold 1200 years before the plot of the main series.

The tape will tell the prehistory of the elven civilization.

The roles in the series are played by Michelle Yeoh (Memoirs of a Geisha, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Lawrence O'Fuaran (Game of Thrones, Vikings), Sophia Brown (Beauty and the Beast, Capture).

The showrunner of the project is Declan De Barra, who previously worked on The Witcher.

Producers include Lauren Schmidt Hissrick.

In addition, the team of the series includes Andrzej Sapkowski - he performs the tasks of a consultant.

Filmmakers promise that this film will significantly enrich the universe presented in the books.

Sapkowski's literary cycle The Witcher includes eight books published between 1986 and 2013 and two short stories.

In 2018, it became known that the writer is working on another work, the action of which will unfold in the universe of The Witcher.

Sapkowski's works formed the basis for a number of comics and computer games. Also, in the early 2000s, a film and a TV series were shot and a rock opera was staged from books. The most popular of all projects is the Netflix series The Witcher, released in 2019. Within a month since the premiere, it was watched by more than 76 million viewers, which at that time was almost half of the subscribers of the video service. By the spring of 2021, The Witcher was the second most viewed Netflix original. It was only bypassed by the Bridgerton series. Sapkowski does not exclude that in the future The Witcher will overtake Game of Thrones in popularity.
