The Grand Palais, closed for five years for renovations, was replaced until 2024 by an ephemeral structure located opposite the Ecole Militaire.

It is a large cross-shaped building, all in wood, with glass facades overlooking the Eiffel Tower.

The ephemeral Grand Palais, located in Paris on the Champs de Mars, opposite the Military School, opened on Saturday.

This ultramodern building will replace the Grand Palais for four years, under construction until 2025. Built in barely seven months, the building is fully modular.

Its programming begins this weekend with a dance performance by choreographer Boris Charmatz. 

Excellent acoustics

The midnight blue dome provides excellent acoustics. According to Emmanuel Markovitch, director general of the meeting of national museums. "Our first priority is to be able to have something that fits into the environment and does not disturb the neighbors, who are very close." The ephemeral Grand Palais will be dismantled at the end of 2024, after the Olympic Games, and reassembled elsewhere in France.
