Before the full-scale summer, the production of special straw hats is at its peak in Kasukabe City, Saitama Prefecture.

Straw hats are a specialty of Kasukabe City, and it is said that they were made during the off-season using wheat cultivated by farmers in the Meiji era.

There were several workshops in the city at one time, but now there is only one, and it is at its peak before the full-scale summer.

Straw hat making is done by division of labor. First, the straw that is woven in a string shape is sewn in a spiral shape with a sewing machine to make a part that covers the head and a brim.

Then, I pressed it with a metal mold to shape it, added decorations, etc., and then carefully cut the fibers protruding from the seams with scissors to finish it.

Yu Tanaka, president of the workshop, said, "Although the number of people traveling due to corona sickness has decreased, straw hats are also excellent for heat stroke countermeasures, so I would like you to wear a straw hat and enjoy the summer."
