"Abu Dhabi Arabic Language" launches "Markaz" magazine

Ali bin Tamim: “We look forward to working with the Brill Foundation to delve into the seas of Arab literature and culture for more than 14 centuries.”

The Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, affiliated with the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with the "Brill" Foundation, launched a refereed Arabic magazine entitled "The Center", the Journal of Arab Studies, as part of the activities of the 30th edition of the Abu Dhabi Book Fair, which concluded yesterday, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center.

Al Markaz magazine is the first magazine to be published entirely in Arabic by the Braille Foundation, one of the most important and prestigious European publishing houses. It deals with Arabic studies in language, literature and culture, and its topics deal with various historical and critical issues and book reviews.

The magazine - which is part of the terms of the memorandum of understanding signed by the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language with the Braille Foundation - covers a time area that extends from the pre-Islamic period to the present.

It is scheduled that there will be two issues of the magazine annually, so that the first will be next January, and the second in June 2022.

For his part, the President of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, Dr. Ali bin Tamim, said: “The Brill Foundation is one of the oldest European publishing institutions, and it has a long history in publishing academic scientific journals. We are pleased with our cooperation with this prestigious institution, and we look forward to working with them on the seas of literature. Arab culture over more than 14 centuries.

The initiative will contribute to strengthening the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, and achieving our goals aimed at enhancing the presence of the Arabic language in various fields, and advancing it in line with the requirements of the times.”

For her part, Moza Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center and Director of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, said: “The publication of the Journal of Arab Studies is the result of the cooperation efforts we have made alongside the Brill Foundation, which has become an inspiring partner in our programs, and we hope to hold more initiatives. The mission is with major institutions in the near future, which serve the vision, mission and goals of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language.”
