The filmmaker and actor Albert Dupontel, whose film "Adieu les cons" will be released in theaters for the second time when it reopens on May 19, is already working on his next project.

A "little political fable" which could allow him to express all his "perplexity" and his "concern", as he explains to Michel Denisot on Europe 1.

INTERVIEW

If Albert Dupontel is inexhaustible on the men of cinema who impress him, starting with Charlie Chaplin and Terry Gilliam, he is much less talkative when asked the question of the policies he appreciates.

The director, invited Saturday by Michel Denisot on Europe 1, readily admits having "a little more trouble" to quote admirable political figures, at least in the current landscape.

The title of his latest film,

Adieu les cons

, which is released in theaters on Wednesday, could also "be a promise for the 2022 campaign," he says with a laugh.

"Knowing that idiots are like trains, one con can hide another, so you have to be wary."

The elite and the little people

Beware, but also be inspired.

"I would like to make a little fable about politics," explains Albert Dupontel, who began to work on this project during confinement.

"For the first time, there would be elite characters" in one of his films.

"I'm trying to connect with the story of little people."

Because the little people, precisely, are the great forgotten politicians, according to the filmmaker.

"I am very perplexed, dubious, not to say worried about what will happen next year", with the presidential election.

“What fascinates me is the psyche of these people who go on TV without a problem saying that they did everything right. There is a form of narcissism, egotism and denial that is fully expressed. "

"Politicians are formed to structure a company but not a country"

It is not specific to the government of Emmanuel Macron.

"It's been a while since we have this kind of profile that comes to power," notes Albert Dupontel.

"Those who communicate the best manage to seduce the most. But politics is not that. It is something much deeper."

The actor and director does not mince his words.

"Today, [the politicians in power] are trained to structure a company but not a country. The general interest, they don't really know what it is."

And are unable to get out of this impasse, denounces Albert Dupontel.

"What is a shame is that the Covid was an opportunity to change. You can be brilliant without being smart and the opportunity to change, they missed it."

The director sees a parallel with his own profession. "A director who sees with his rushes that the script is not good, he changes his script. There, the script, [the policies] do not change it. They will even claim it for a re-delivery in 2022 . " And, obviously, Albert Dupontel is not a big customer.
