Byzantine coffins were found in the home of a Jordanian citizen

The competent Jordanian authorities found two complete stone sarcophagi and the remains of a third among the archaeological contents in a tomb likely linked to the Byzantine era, in a cave-shaped rock cavity underneath a house in the “Al-Barha” area in the northern governorate of Irbid.

Sources said that the owner of the old house reported cracks that led to the site before security personnel went to conduct a comprehensive field survey in the presence of an expert.

Ziyad Ghunaimat, Director of Irbid Antiquities, said: The tomb contains two coffins dating back to ancient times, in addition to large-sized basalt stones, and there are more than one entrance to the site. He emphasized the reservation of the tomb and its contents.
