Aldi Nord apologized after a racist incident in a Berlin branch and took personal consequences.

"The events in our store in Berlin are being processed in order to be able to draw further conclusions from them," said a company spokesman on Friday.

The German-Ghanaian Prince Ofori had previously published a video of the incident on Instagram on Wednesday.

"As a first step, we separated from the employee acting in the video due to his misconduct," said Aldi Nord.

The video shows how Ofori is surrounded by customers and employees of the branch and sometimes physically attacked or a cardboard box is thrown at him.

"They even attack me," says Ofori in the recording before he is pushed out of the market by several people - apparently including the employee who has now been dismissed and who is addressed in the video by another employee as "boss".

Ofori wrote on Instagram that he started recording after an elderly man with a chocolate kiss in his hand asked his son “whether you should treat yourself to“ N ... kisses ”today”.

The man had twice followed up with similar formulations in which the "N-word" occurred.

Ofori had pointed out to him that this word could no longer be used.

Then there was a verbal battle in which the branch manager interfered.

This is where the video begins.

Ofori is a dance teacher in Berlin-Neukölln and, according to his own statement, co-founder of the black artist collective MIK Family and chairman of the MINCE cultural association.

He posts on Instagram under the name “prince.mik”, where he has almost 18,000 followers.

"We have contacted the customer, apologized to him and would like to speak to him personally about the incident," Aldi Nord also shared on Instagram. The company will "not tolerate racism - neither from its own ranks nor in society".
