After their sensational television interview, the British Prince Harry and his wife Meghan are as unpopular with the British as never before.

In a YouGov poll published on Friday, 48 percent of participants expressed a negative opinion of Harry for the first time, and only 45 percent are positive about him.

His wife Meghan gets off even worse: 58 percent of those surveyed have a bad opinion of her, only 31 percent see her as positive.

Older Brits in particular were not convinced by the couple's appearance: Accordingly, not even a third (27 percent) of the over 65-year-olds have a positive image of Prince Harry, who has reneged from the royal family, only around one in eight likes his wife Meghan.

A completely different picture emerges with 18- to 24-year-olds: According to the survey, almost 60 percent said they like Harry - 55 percent said that about Meghan.

A generation conflict is also manifested in the polls.

Overall, the popularity of the couple, who now live in California with their son Archie (1), has decreased significantly since the interview: Harry, for example, has lost 15 percentage points of approval since the last survey before the interview.

Meghan showed a similar negative trend.

However, even before the interview, the majority of British people stated that they did not like her.

Prince Charles, whom Harry blamed in an interview, also lost popularity overall - but at 49 percent, more Britons have a positive opinion of him than a negative one (42 percent).

Meanwhile, the Queen's popularity ratings remain high: they are 80 percent.

Meghan's and Harry's TV interview sparked a debate about racism, mental suffering and the relationship between Britain and its former colonies.

The couple had made serious allegations against the royal family and the British media in the interview, which received worldwide attention.

Before the birth of their son Archie, it was in the royal family how dark his skin color would be, the two said.

The palace is said to have seen a dark-skinned baby as a possible problem.

The 39-year-old Duchess Meghan is the first in the Windsor house with African American roots, her mother is black.

A high-ranking royal had expressed the consideration of how the skin color could work outwardly to Harry, it said.

The couple did not reveal who that was.

Only Her Majesty - Queen Elizabeth II - and Prince Philip were subsequently taken out of the line of fire.

Meghan went on to say that she felt so isolated and miserable as a member of the royals that she had thoughts of suicide.

When she asked the palace's human resources department for psychological help, she was told that she was not an employee, Meghan said.

"We are not a racist family"

The palace initially had time to respond to the interview, which was initially broadcast on US television on Sunday evening.

According to insiders, various crisis meetings are said to have taken place in the background.

Finally, on Tuesday afternoon, the answer was: Take the allegations “very seriously”, according to a written statement.

The issues raised, especially the accusation of racism, are worrying.

Although the memory is partly different, the allegations are processed privately by the family

Prince William had rejected the racism allegations on Thursday.

"We are not a racist family," said Harry's brother while visiting a school in London.

He has not spoken to his brother since the TV interview aired, William said - "but I will".
