Why do we want our own children at all?

And how do you justify the fact that you don't want any offspring?

Two Swiss women, the philosopher Barbara Bleisch and the legal scholar Andrea Büchler, have explored the children's issue.

In a Zoom conversation, they explain why having children today is a decision and not a question of fate.

WORLD:

You consciously speak of "child-free" instead of "childless".

Barbara Bleisch:

Those who consciously decide against having children sometimes prefer the expression child-free to make it clear that this doesn't have to be a defect.

Women in particular are still often asked with this regretful undertone why they have no children, as if women without children had to justify themselves.

WORLD:

I found the statement in your book interesting, children would in a way not fit into our time and our society.
