The third wave of the coronavirus that broke out after Christmas is fading a month and a half later.

The cumulative incidence in the last 14 days throughout Spain continues to decline and stands at

218.67 cases per 100,000 inhabitants

, compared to 235 on Tuesday that already meant leaving the national territory of the 'extreme risk' band and the entry into 'high risk'.

However, the data released this Wednesday by Health shows that there are still communities that exceed 250 cases / 100,000 inhabitants and therefore remain at 'extreme risk'.

These are Madrid (339) and the Basque Country (274), in addition to the autonomous cities of Melilla (457) and Ceuta (311).

At the opposite extreme,

other regions are already below 150 cases, in the zone of 'medium risk'

according to the 14-day AI.

These are Navarra (147), Castilla-La Mancha (146), Murcia (127), La Rioja (123), the Canary Islands (111), the Balearic Islands (101) and Extremadura (87).

The fact that the cumulative incidence over seven days throughout Spain continues to decline (84.13 cases / 100,000 inhabitants compared to 89.70 on Tuesday) allows us to predict further declines in the 14-day national indicator in the coming days.

Health also notified

9,212 new cases

of coronavirus

this Wednesday

, compared to the 7,641 added to its statistics on Tuesday.

3,809 of these infections correspond to diagnoses in the last 24 hours;

on Tuesday they were 3,184.

Since the pandemic began in our country, there have been 3,170,644 infections confirmed with a diagnostic test.

As has happened on other occasions, the reduction in infections and incidence does not translate immediately into an equivalent decrease in the number of deaths from the pandemic.

The Health information collects

389 more deaths from Covid-19

this Wednesday

, a figure, yes, lower than the 443 on Tuesday.

In total, according to these official data, 68,468 people have died and tested positive since the first case was found.

873 of these deaths have occurred in the last seven days.

As a week ago there were 1,234, it is intuited that this data will also improve in the days to come.

Slowly but steadily, healthcare pressure continues to decrease.

A week ago, last Wednesday, Covid patients occupied 14.34% of hospital beds and 36.12% of beds in Intensive Care.

Both percentages have been reduced in the last update to 10.67% and 30.55%, respectively.

However, it must be taken into account that,

for the ICU beds indicator, Spain remains at the 'extreme risk' level because it exceeds the 25% threshold

.

Especially worrying is the pressure on ICUs in some regions where the high percentage of seriously ill patients from the coronavirus significantly limits resources for patients with other pathologies.

The communities in a more delicate situation, in this sense, are Madrid (44.75%), Catalonia (39.91%), Castilla y León (39.15%), the city of Ceuta (35.29%), Asturias (35.14%), Aragon (32.20%) and Castilla-La Mancha (30.70%).

In the European context, Spain is the fourth country by number of confirmed cases, behind Russia, the United Kingdom and France.

If the cumulative incidence is taken as a reference, the country in the worst situation is the Czech Republic (1,170 cases / 100,000 inhabitants), followed by Sweden (421), France (402), well above the 218 in Spain.

Finally, according to the vaccination report, our country has administered

3,284,678 doses of vaccines against the coronavirus

, which represent 72.8% of the 4,508,845 received.

As of this Wednesday, 1,221,183 people have received the two injections.

By autonomous communities, the city of Ceuta has inoculated the highest percentage of its doses, reaching 91.7%, followed by Melilla (85.8%), while in Madrid (63.7%) and the Basque Country (60 , 5%) the lowest percentages are registered.
