North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) hopes to get the pandemic under control within a year.

"I would like to see the pandemic and its effects overcome next year in February 2022," Laschet said on Tuesday.

To this end, the politician relies primarily on a successful vaccination strategy.

He hopes "that we have so many vaccinations that we can be back in normal life and maybe celebrate Carnival again," Laschet said on Tuesday.

If he has his way, dentists should also take part and give citizens vaccinations.

However, the proposal is not intended to be implemented immediately.

He explained: "That is still being viewed critically."

If at some point there is a lot of vaccine, however, the entire breadth of medical expertise will be needed in the country, Laschet emphasized.

Due to the limited availability of the vaccine, however, it is currently still necessary to stay with the vaccination centers.
