On February 6, the new signal system and new trains of the East Rail Line of the MTR Corporation were put into operation. The new trains were 9-carriage trains. The initial 9-carriage trains were mixed with the current 12-carriage trains.
On the first day of operation, a staff member of the MTR reminded citizens of the different boarding positions of new and old cars on the platform.
