In the Reihoku region of Fukui prefecture, a "Tenjin-ko" is held on January 25th every year with flatfish baked on "Tenjin-sama" to pray for the improvement of children's academic ability.

Fresh fish stores around the world were crowded with people buying grilled galleys.

"Tenjin Ko" is a traditional event in the Reihoku region of Fukui prefecture, where the god of learning, Sugawara no Michizane, wishes to improve children's academic ability in line with "Hatsu Tenjin", the first anniversary of the year. It is customary to have a grilled galley in front of the hanging shaft.

Along with this, on the 25th, four fresh fish stores in the Fukui City Central Wholesale Market were busy baking flatfish landed in the prefecture in the oven from the morning.

At the storefront, large roasted galleys with a length of about 30 cm with slightly grilled eyes were lined up, and shoppers were buying them while deciding the items.

The Fukui City Central Wholesale Market used to sell flatfish that had been ritualized every year, but this means that the new coronavirus has canceled the ritual.

A couple who had an elementary school daughter said, "I want my daughter to study a lot."

Hidenori Kataoka of the Fukui City Central Wholesale Market said, "I can't even have a dinner because of the influence of the corona, but I would like you to bring back the traditional grilled galley and surround the table with your family."
