March 15th of this year is considered to be an auspicious day as three good luck days overlap. Fukui City's lottery booths are crowded with people from the morning.
According to the Japan Calendar and Calendar Culture Promotion Association, the three lucky days only overlap once every two years. From the year after next, they will not overlap until at least 2030, the association says. Some people could be seen praying at the golden torii gate in the sales area of a Fukui lottery office.
