The American National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has announced the postponement of the 2021 Grammy Awards.

The show was previously scheduled for January 31st.

“After meaningful discussions with health experts, lead and upcoming artists, we have decided to postpone the broadcast of the 63rd Grammy Awards on Sunday, March 14, 2021,” reads the official Twitter account, and also on the website of the organization.

After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd #GRAMMYs to be broadcast Sunday, March 14, 2021.

This measure is associated with the spread of coronavirus in Los Angeles, where the event is to be held.

The organizers named the health of the musicians and everyone who will be involved in the event as a priority.

“The worsening COVID-19 situation in Los Angeles - hospitals are overcrowded, intensive care units are operating at their maximum capacity - and new recommendations from state and city authorities have led us to the conclusion that postponing the ceremony would be the right decision,” the academy said.

The statement was signed by Chairman and Acting President of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Harvey Mason Jr., Deputy Chairman of the Board of Special Performances, Music Concerts, Live Broadcasting and Alternative Programming CBS Jack Sussman and Grammy Awards Executive Producer Ben Winston.

They also thanked the artists, suppliers and academy staff "for their understanding, patience and willingness to work in these unprecedented times."

According to Variety, in the fall of 2020, the leadership of the academy considered the possibility of holding the event not at the Staples Center (where the ceremony has been held since 2000, with rare exceptions), but at some independent site.

“I am very impressed with independent sites around the world, and I know how much this particular part of the industry suffers.

I want to come up with something interesting with independent platforms - to support them and draw attention to them in this really difficult year for them, ”said Ben Winston.

However, the event will still be held at a traditional venue.

The 63rd ceremony will be hosted by comedian and showman Trevor Noah.

Due to the postponement of the show on March 14, a separate issue arose.

Earlier on this day, the Screen Actors Guild Awards were scheduled to be presented, about which the relevant organization notified in the summer.

“We were extremely disappointed to learn that this year's Grammy Awards will air on March 14th, as we set the same date for the Screen Actors Guild Awards last July, with the intention of leaving other ceremonies as much as possible in terms of scheduling. ...

We expect the same approach from sister organizations within our industry, ”the Screen Actors Guild said in a statement on Tuesday.

Some members of the US Screen Actors Guild are also members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Organizations have already begun discussing the issue of the procedure for holding events in order to adequately celebrate the creative successes of artists who represent different industries.

“We are in contact with the National Recording Academy and will continue to work with sister organizations to find ways to make this awards season as successful as possible,” said the Screen Actors Guild.

Although musicians and their fans will only find out the names of the Grammy winners in the spring, academics have already summed up the musical results of 2020.

On January 4, the deadline for the final vote came out - it became known about the change of the date of the award ceremony later.

Among the nominees are last year's triumphant Billie Eilish, as well as Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, DaBaby, Roddy Rich, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Post Malone, Black Pumas and Coldplay.

They are among the contenders for major awards: Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Best New Artist.

Other categories also include BTS, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Leonard Cohen, Ariana Grande, Kanye West, Harry Styles and more.

Rap artist The Weeknd hasn't received any nominations this year.

The artist accused the organization of corruption and stressed that the academy lacks transparency.
