Saxony is also the negative frontrunner in the corona pandemic at the beginning of 2021.

According to an overview by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Friday, there were 334.5 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days.

The Vogtlandkreis and the district of Meißen top the list of districts in Germany with seven-day incidences of 818.6 and 613.9, respectively.

The average value of all federal states was 141.9, the lowest incidence was 26.3 in the city of Rostock (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania).

For the Free State of Saxony as a whole, the RKI dashboard (as of January 1, 2021 0:00 a.m.) showed 135,397 corona infections since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

The number of deaths in connection with a corona infection was 3266. Only Thuringia is colored dark red on the RKI map, with a reported incidence of 256.3.

Bremen, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein, however, have a value of less than 100.

The RKI points out, however, that around the turn of the year fewer people go to the doctor and thus fewer samples are taken and examined, and fewer pathogens are reported to the responsible health authorities.

In addition, it could be that health authorities and competent authorities of the federal states do not pass on data to the RKI every day.
