The drama.

A car rushed into a church in Decize (Nièvre) on Sunday at the end of mass, knocking down three people, one on the forecourt and two in the building, we learned from the gendarmerie.

Two of the injured were only slightly injured but a third person was transferred to Moulins hospital (Allier) with suspected concussion.

An 84-year-old driver who "confused the pedals"

The incident was caused by an 84-year-old driver, who "confused the pedals of his car and accelerated instead of pressing the brake", we added to the gendarmerie, confirming information from the daily

But the emergency services believed for a time in a terrorist attack.

“People called to say that a car had entered the Church and that there were gunshots”… In fact, the sound of chairs being crushed by the vehicle.

“Fortunately,” we point out to the gendarmerie, “only half of the gate was open.

The car was thus forced to go to the left and hit a pillar, instead of going up the central aisle ”.

The incident took place at the Saint-Aré church in Decize, a Romanesque building classified as a Historic Monument.

The driver was taken to the gendarmerie brigade where he was interviewed.

An investigation is underway.
