The prefecture of Cher announced on Friday that it had lifted the formal notice of the Blancafort (Cher) slaughterhouse, which was threatened with suspension of approval due to breaches of animal protection.

“Since December 16, the 48 hours have been used to resolve non-conformities and comply with regulations in the field of animal protection,” said the prefecture in a statement released Friday evening.

"The implementation of these measures, which respond to the major non-conformities noted during the inspection of December 11, will be subject to regular checks by the competent services", warned the prefecture.

An investigation by L214

On Wednesday evening, the L214 animal rights association also unveiled its own investigation into the slaughterhouse.

Based on a video shot in October 2020, L214 noted three major dysfunctions on the site and asked for the "closure of this slaughterhouse", which she said slaughters 75,000 turkeys per week.

Les Volailles de Blancafort has been specialized in the cutting and packaging of poultry for more than forty years.

It belongs to the LDC poultry group and sells under the Le Gaulois brand.
