Niger has been facing, since the drought of 1973, an advanced degradation of its environment.

This exposes the country to a precarious food situation, and the worsening of great poverty in rural areas.

The action of the NGO Garkua is a distribution of food for environmental rehabilitation works.

Publicity

Due to chronic food insecurity and infectious diseases, Niger's malnutrition and death rates are among the highest in the world.

More than 40% of children under five are chronically malnourished, and rates of acute malnutrition are well above the severity threshold of 10% set by the WHO.

We understand that there is an emergency, which consists in preserving the little that remains.

Desertification and environmental degradation hamper the socio-economic development of the country.

An example, 91% of household energy comes from wood.

This amounts to accentuating deforestation, when the situation is already difficult.
