The cultural industry is waiting to be informed if events with an audience of over 50 people will be able to be held this autumn. Minister of the Interior Mikael Damberg (S) and Minister of Culture Amanda Lind (MP) have flagged that it is underway.

“We understand that the industries need clear information. Our ambition is to be able to announce within a few weeks how the government sees that the issue of a ban on larger gatherings will be handled during the autumn ", Mikael Damberg greeted through his press secretary to Kulturnyheterna on Thursday.

Police: "There is nothing on the horizon"

But so far the police have not received any signals about any new rules.

- We have not received any indication that it will change. There is nothing on the horizon, that question has not even appeared, says Per Engström, national commander in chief for the police's handling of the corona crisis.

Per Engström emphasizes that it is not the police who decide which restrictions apply. But he believes it will be some time before the ceiling of 50 people at cultural and sporting events is raised.

- It probably depends on how well it works now that people start working and going to school. At the end of September, we should perhaps be able to see where we are going.

"End up in a strange world"

He understands that the public has a hard time understanding the logic behind today's restrictions.

- Our law is not adapted to a pandemic, everyone agrees. We end up in a strange world, says Per Engström.

At the same time, he sees a point in not changing the audience restrictions, up or down, at too fast a pace.

- The Swedish strategy is based on us not being as jerky as our neighboring countries. Then a mistrust of decision-makers spreads, we can see that in other countries.
