Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture has begun to distribute its own game for smartphones to promote tourist attractions such as Byodo-in Temple and local specialty products.

This game is named "Uji City ~Uji Tea and Genji Monogatari Town~" and can be downloaded from the city's website.

The story is that the Heian nobleman in the crow hat of the protagonist goes to help the image character "Chihayahime" of Uji city who was taken away by the demon, a famous place in the city such as Byodoin Temple of World Heritage and Manpukuji Temple related to Sencha. It is set in a historical site.

It is reminiscent of a 1990s video game, and a tourist guide woman will appear on the screen to introduce history and culture.

According to Uji City, the game production cost is about 11 million yen, of which about 6.5 million yen is collected by crowdfunding and about 4.5 million yen is borne by the city.

Mayor Tadashi Yamamoto of Uji City said, “I want people to come to the city and compare it with games to feel the charm of Uji.”
