Will music be in full swing on Sunday? - LUDOVIC MARIN / AFP

  • Like it or not, the Fête de la musique will take place on Sunday, June 21.
  • Can we (and do we want to) celebrate music at a time of barrier gestures and social distancing?
  • "20 Minutes" surveyed its readers to find out if they were ready to host this music festival in the days of the coronavirus.

How about java to forget? Sunday, the French men and women will be invited to celebrate the Fête de la Musique as it should be, as every year for almost 40 years. Except that here, even if the Ministry of Culture has decided not to give up these summer celebrations, the coronavirus has been there. And left traces.

Between the fear of catching the virus, the fear of gatherings, the difficulty of having a drink with a mask, without forgetting the anxiety of losing your job and the uncertainty of life, is it possible to celebrate music this year ? Covid-19, barrier gestures and fiesta do they mix?

Between fear and boycott

For Carla, 26, who answered a call for contributions from 20 Minutes , the organization of this party "is not reasonable": "Distance is not possible, three quarters of the bars per hour current do not respect the rules so I do not see how they can be respected at gatherings like this. "

Apprehensions shared by Geneviève, a sexagenarian reader. "I won't be going there this year (as a spectator like the other years)," she says. When I see that in stores today people no longer wear masks, I was insulted because I was wearing one! I was told that I was ridiculous anyway, [that @ if we have to be sick, we will be! On the other hand, cases of Covid-19 have reappeared in my region, I will not take any risks, especially since I am diabetic, asthmatic, etc. "

Apart from the health risk involved, other concerns worry our readers. Loïc, a 43-year-old musician, evokes in particular the gloomy climate. Guitarist and singer in two groups, he had to play this weekend in Cergy-Pontoise, before the organizing association canceled, subject to too many constraints. “No Music Festival 2020 for me, like many others. (...) Given the little attention that has been paid to the fate of musicians during this crisis, it is not a bad thing that we do not perform voluntarily when our professional future is most uncertain ”, he explains by evoking a “certain form of boycott, history to remind this society what a world without music would be… Even if I am sad about it, I think that it is not necessary to participate in the Fête de la music this year, so I won't do it. "

Let's celebrate music at all costs

Other musicians will not hesitate to celebrate it, taking advantage of a certain emulation born in the previous months. “During the confinement, we played on the roof of our house and the neighbors appreciated. This time we decided to go down and play for the neighborhood, in the street, as part of the Fête de la Musique and trying to respect the safety distances, "explains the Rochelle duo Gospalaga, song / guitar / ukulele / maracas. And no need for authorization for the group, Sunday they will play in front of their house by opening the gate, with "some palettes in quise of scene".

As for spectators and music lovers, some would not miss the opportunity for anything in the world. This is the case of Kelvin, 18: “With a friend we travel from Brittany to Paris to go see the concert at AccorArena [ All together for music! In public!,  Broadcast on Friday evening live on France 2]. The only concert of the summer, how could we miss it? "

"Already, in normal times, the Fête de la Musique is important locally for me, but there I said to myself that I had to celebrate it in Paris," says Kelvin. And what about health measures? "The distancing was respected," he says. We were distributed in this way: two seated seats and one empty. For my part I found it well done and I did not feel stress or fear because everyone was wearing a mask. "

And why not a little concert between friends?

In the party-goers team, some have even decided to think big. And that's how Johann, a resident of 91, 28 years old, simply decided to organize a mini-festival (as long as to do). "It is the first time that I have organized a concert and the first time that I have organized something for the Fête de la Musique," he says. Normally I go out and I don't even play. "

The idea came to him in early March, well before the confinement, and won over many of his friends, especially those who were locked up for weeks in Paris. “In the end, it was the people who heated up the most. All my Parisian friends for example, a plan in a garden, outdoors to listen to music, in a period of deconfinement, that suits them very well. In fact I will succeed in having people who usually had trouble moving around! "

This is how the "zik party at Jojo's" will welcome around thirty relatives from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, in a private setting of course. For the occasion, the organizer has even rented a stage where four groups of different styles will follow one another, all friends of Jojo. The joy of being together will not prevent being vigilant.

After asking himself the question of canceling or not, Johann decided to maintain the festivities by establishing several rules: no food to avoid contact, individual and nominal cups and ban on people over 50 (more vulnerable) to join the party.

Likewise, he took care to have hydroalcoholic gel everywhere, and signage signs to respect social distancing measures. "We are going to try to make something square sanitary speaking," he says. Like what, nothing will stop the music.
