A very popular actor, founder of the national scene La Criée in Marseille and former director of the Théâtre du Rond-Point in Paris, Marcel Maréchal died on the night of June 10-11 in Paris at the age of 82.

Born on Christmas Day 1937 in Lyon, Marcel Maréchal founded his first theater in 1958, the Théâtre du Cothurne in Lyon where he debuted Pierre Arditi and Pierre Boulanger. In his first plays, he stages the greatest contemporary authors: Jean Anouilh, Carlo Goldoni, Samuel Beckett, Wolfgang Borchert ...

From the Gymnasium Theater to the Roundabout

Appointed director of the Théâtre du Gymnase in Marseille, in 1981 he founded La Criée, Théâtre national de Marseille. Invited several times in the courtyard of the Festival d'Avignon, from 1995 he directed the Parisian theater at Rond-Point on the Champs-Elysées.

Rewarded with the price of the best actor by the Syndicate of the criticism in 1969, it is distinguished in 1992 at the same time by Molière of the best director and the best actor for the show Maître Puntila and his valet Matti by Bertolt Brecht.

"Navarro" 

As an actor in the cinema, he excels in Fanfan,  by Alexandre Jardin, and in The most beautiful country in the world , by Marcel Bluwal. But it is above all his interpretations of characters for television series like  Julien Fontanes , Magistrate , Navarro or Nestor Burma that make him very popular.
