• Flights: Airline tickets could be up to 54% more expensive due to social distancing
  • Aviation: The world's largest airplane flies again due to the coronavirus to transport medical supplies

No one doubts that the way of traveling will never be the same. The omnipresent masks and gloves are and will be the daily bread in airports and train stations next to the queues to check in or pass the controls with a safety distance of two meters. In addition, new devices are added every time as an indispensable part of the furniture of these buildings where travelers come and go without ceasing. Like the full-length human disinfection booths just released by Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), making it the first in the world to have them.

Its objective is none other than to increase health security measures in the face of the world coronavirus crisis. To do this, they have not hesitated to resort to the latest hygiene technologies, as has happened in the rest of Hong Kong, the Special Administrative Region of China that has registered 1,048 cases of Covid-19 and only four deaths.

First: taking body temperature

As for human disinfection machines, these are the so-called CLeanTech and their modus operandi is as follows. Before entering the entire body inside the cabin, the person to be disinfected must take their body temperature , an essential prerequisite for entering the machine. Once inside, it should stay 40 seconds, the time the sterilizing spray lasts.

Meanwhile, the apparatus is kept under negative pressure to avoid possible cross contamination between germs on the outside and inside. This, in addition, comes lined with an antibacterial material that manages to eliminate any germ attached to both the body and clothing. To do this, a technological system based on photocatalysts is used, which removes contaminants that may be in the atmosphere through an oxidation process, and nano-needles, which prevent the adhesion of bacteria.

Anti-germ robots 24 hours a day

For the moment, CLeanTechs have been installed for employees of the Hong Kong airport who perform sanitary and cleaning tasks inside the building or who must deal with travelers with symptoms of coronavirus who have to go through quarantine. Even so, it is not ruled out that passengers will also use it in the future to increase security.

On the other hand, the Hong Kong airport is also using intelligent sterilization robots , capable of destroying 99.99% of the existing viruses in any space in just 10 minutes through separate disinfectants of ultraviolet light and air. They are in operation 24 hours a day.

Hong Kong airport is the first to install these devices.

In addition, the aerodrome is using an invisible antibacterial coating throughout the building that eliminates any type of germ. The areas of greatest concern are those with the greatest contact, such as the handles and seats of the vehicles and buses that transport people inside the terminals, the elevator buttons, the check-in counters , the toilets, the rest areas or trolleys to carry luggage.
