Patients are transported in the SAMU helicopters. - CHRU Lille

Since this Friday morning, a ballet of helicopters has been going back and forth between the Somme and the North. The aim is to transfer sick patients from Covid-19 of the Amiens Hospital Center to that of Lille, whose capacities have not reached saturation.

There were medical TGVs between Grand-Est and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. There are now helicopter shuttles between Amiens and Lille. This Friday, ten heavy patients were thus transported from one hospital to another during five rotations of the two helicopters of the Samu 59 and the Samu 80.

The persons concerned were all admitted to the intensive care unit of the Amiens hospital center. The approach therefore aims to relieve this hospital, that of Lille was able, due to its reorganization, to accommodate more people infected with the coronavirus.

For the Hauts-de-France Regional Health Agency (ARS), there is nothing really exceptional: “The transfer of patients from one establishment to another is fairly regular. This is part of the regional organization for the management of the health crisis ”, we explain to 20 Minutes. Most often, these transports are carried out by ambulance. "It is up to the Samu to decide on the most appropriate means depending on the patient's condition," said the ARS.
