The President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula Von der Leyen , has trusted that the health protection equipment against the coronavirus , whose purchase the institution is finalizing through a community public tender, will be available in Spanish hospitals in two weeks .

"The public tender for masks and other equipment is succeeding. We have received more offers for masks and gloves than we asked for, " said Von der Leyen through a video on his Twitter social network profile aimed at the Spanish.

Contracts for these teams, he said, " should now be signed quickly, and in two weeks, masks, gloves, gowns, and goggles will be in their hospitals."

Von der Leyen expressed his gratitude to the toilets in Spain "who work against the clock to save lives" and face the "shortage of medical material" and confirmed that they have also opened a common public tender to buy ventilators and diagnostic tests.

"I hope we have them soon," he said.

German politics said it was aware that Spaniards "are not only concerned about their health and that of their families, but also about their jobs . "

"Spain suffered a lot during the 2008 economic and financial crisis. They worked very hard to recover and modernize successfully," he said, while acknowledging that the fight against the coronavirus is "a severe setback for our economy."

"I know that many of you fear losing your jobs due to the coronavirus crisis. We are not going to disappoint you. In fact, we have just approved two state aid regimes worth 20 billion euros notified by Spain," he emphasized. The European Commission gave the green light on Tuesday to aid for companies and the self-employed .

"This will protect many jobs and save many small businesses," said Von der Leyen , adding that the EC has adopted "the most flexible state aid regulation in history" and has allowed "absolute flexibility under our budget rules" .

He trusted that this would allow the Spanish government "to support the economy with as much money as necessary."

He also assured that "we also help Spain with the budget of the European Union", from which the country may receive around 11,000 million euros from the investment initiative launched by the EC in the face of this crisis.

"This will support their health system, SMEs and short-term employment plans. And we are ready to take more measures if necessary," said the community president.

With almost 40,000 infections, the fatal victims do not stop in Spain and this Tuesday the country reached a new mark of daily deaths by COVID-19 (514) until reaching 2,698, (56.9% in Madrid).

In addition, with 2,636 patients in intensive care units (ICU), these services are on the verge of collapse, both due to lack of material and personnel.
