Hilma af Klint is shown in Malmö - entrance fee is met by criticism

SEK 120, the exhibition with Hilma af Klint will cost adults and SEK 90 for students and pensioners. If you are 18 years old, the exhibition is free. The exhibition will also be free for everyone on Tuesdays between 3 pm and 5 pm, which Frida Trollmyr thinks is not enough.

- It is not enough, we have cultural policy goals. You should have low thresholds, you should have a great accessibility for visitors and Malmö residents. Then two hours a week is not enough. One cannot say that the Modern Museum in Malmö is included in the free-entrance reform then.

For Frida Trollmyr it is also a matter of justice, she believes it is a Stockholm centrism.

- What I am critical of is that in April, they left the government and said that they are reintroducing free entrance to the state museum. Then they had a list of a number of museums, including in Moderna in Stockholm and Malmö. I think that will be a matter of justice. Is it only in Stockholm that you should have free admission to the State Museum?

How do you think you would do instead?

- It is hard to say. One way is to go to their clients and say that you need funds for this exhibition, says Frida Trollmyr.

Iris Müller-Westermann is the curator of the exhibition together with Milena Høgsberg, on the other hand, thinks that it is difficult to get sponsorship for exhibitions.

- We have a budget, previously we had sponsors. They have left the cultural world and entered sports. It is not easy to get sponsors to support cultural activities anymore. This is evident in both Stockholm and Malmö. But of course about the Ministry of Culture says: hear from you when you make huge projects that you cannot cover with your budgets, so we are happy to support you. Then we will continue to do so.

Did you contact the Ministry of Culture for this exhibition?

- No, we didn't. We have a budget and that budget is what we have at our disposal. We had an internal discussion with the city of Malmö and the region, says Iris Müller-Westermann and continues:

- This exhibition will be absolutely fantastic, I am convinced that we made the right decision to show Hilma af Klint and make it available not only in the capital. I am sure that as many people as possible can come to the museum. But here we are between not doing a fantastic project and having free entrance with an exhibition that is not so exciting now. Then we have chosen to show Hilma af Klint.
