With the ice floe season approaching, the Garinko-go drift ice sightseeing boat in Monbetsu, Hokkaido has begun operation.

The Galinko Drift Ice Sightseeing Boat in Monbetsu City, which travels while crushing the ice floe with the screw at the bow, is used by approximately 30,000 tourists every year and enjoys the superb view of the Okhotsk Sea in winter.

This season's operation began on the 10th, and the first flight departed after an event praying for safety at the port, and about 150 people, including invited trainees and tourists, enjoyed the cruise .

Although we were unable to see the drift ice on the 10th, the passengers were cheering on the strong waves and taking photos of commemorating boats.

A man from Shibetsu, a family, said, "I couldn't see the drift ice, but I was very happy because the boat was running over the rough seas."

"I hope a lot of drift ice will come to make tourists happy," said Captain Shigeru Yamai of the Garinko.

According to the Sapporo Regional Meteorological Observatory, drift ice in the Sea of Okhotsk is moving south at a faster pace than normal, and the first day of drift ice to be able to see drift ice with the naked eye in Abashiri is expected from mid to late this month.

The Garinko will be in service until the end of March.
