In the interview with the American newspaper The New York Post, Harvey Weinsten says he wants to be remembered as someone who has done professionally "more for women than anyone else in the film industry". He believes that the extensive rape charges brought against him have come to light from his work for female directors and actors.

- I have made more films directed by women and about women than any other filmmaker, and I mean 30 years ago. Not today when it's trendy, I did it first. I laid the foundations for it, he says according to the newspaper.

"I feel like a forgotten man," he continues.

Accused by over 70 women

Former film mogul Harvey Weinstein has been accused of sexually assaulting over 70 women. It was in October 2017 that the charges burst after a New York Times report, which in turn became the starting point for the worldwide metoo movement.

Recently, it was reported that Harvey Weinstein and his film company reached a settlement with some 30 of the women who accused him of sexual harassment, abuse and rape.

The settlement means that all civil cases against Harvey Weinstein and the board members of his company Weinstein company are terminated. In such cases, the sum, which is equivalent to SEK 235 million, is paid out by the company's insurance company. Most of the money is compensation to the women for withdrawing the charges.

However, not everyone has approved the settlement. A former female producer at the Weinstein company and an actor have refused and, according to their lawyers, plan to contest it.

Prosecuted for rape

Earlier, it was also clear that Harvey Weinstein was charged in two cases, one rape of one woman in 2006 and sexual assault of another woman in 2013.

The legal proceedings against Harvey Weinstein begin on January 6 in New York.

Harvey Weinstein has consistently denied any charges against him.
