Ice off the coast of Hokkaido in northern Japan blocked a pod of killer whales numbering 16-17 individuals. A local researcher filmed the animals using a quadcopter.
In May 2023, another situation involving killer whales occurred off the Coast of Spain. It was reported that due to the collision with them, the crew of the sailing ship had to be rescued. The killer whales clustered together on a small area of the sea surface between the ice floes, constantly swimming and diving to breathe.
