[HIGHLIGHTS] Water source area of the middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project: black and odorous sewage hidden pipes are secretly discharged into the open channel of gray and white mud into the river

Shiyan City, Hubei Province is the core water source area of Danjiangkou Reservoir, source of the middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. A Voice of China reporter found that some enterprises illegally discharge domestic sewage and production wastewater into the Si River.

The Si River is a first-class tributary of the Han River and one of the five reservoir rivers in Shiyan City. The sewage flowing through the hillside precipitated a thick layer of white-gray mud, covering the green vegetation.
