Washington allows a resolution to stop the war to be passed in the Security Council and then empties it of its content. After 5 months of war waged by Israel on the Gaza Strip, the UN Security Council issued a resolution calling for a halt to the fighting and the release of Israeli prisoners.

But American officials were quick to empty the resolution of its force by saying that it was not binding, a statement that from the American point of view meant Israel’s right to continue the war.
