In 2004, the entire village of Changjiangyuan was relocated from Tanggula Mountain Town to the outskirts of Golmud City. 128 herders from 407 households moved to the migrant settlement.
The relocated villagers integrated into the city, maintained the habit of carrying out environmental sanitation together every Saturday, and together protected their new homes in the city. In the nearly 20 years since the completion of the ecological migration relocation work, the ecology of the source of the Yangtze River has gradually improved.
