Tanggula Mountain Town, located at the source of the Yangtze River, is the core area of the Sanjiangyuan Reserve, with an average altitude of more than 4700,20 meters, making it the highest township in the world. From the late 80s to the 90s of the <>th century, the ecology of the Sanjiangyuan area began to deteriorate, and the degradation of grasslands, desertification and rodent infestation caused the local herders' lives to fall into difficulties again.
In order to protect the ecology of the Sanjiangyuan and better restore the grassland vegetation, in 2004, the entire village of Changjiangyuan was relocated from Tanggula Mountain Town to the outskirts of Golmud City.

Recalling the life before ecological migration, Gao Nanjie said that the climate on the mountain is not good, the natural environment is poor, the transportation is inconvenient, and the infrastructure is not complete, and from the mountain to the town, the road of tens of kilometers needs to be walked on horseback for a long time.

In the past, when we were in the mountains, one was that the climate was high, the natural environment was a little poor, the transportation was inconvenient, and it was very difficult for children to go to school and see a doctor. The road is very long, about 1200 miles from our mountain to the town, but it takes three or four days to walk on horseback.
As the first batch of ecological migrants, 128 herders from 407 households in Tanggula Mountain Town, where the source of the Yangtze River, moved to the migrant settlement in the southern suburbs of Golmud City, 400 kilometers away, forming today's Yangtze River Source Village. From the initial language barrier and inconvenient communication to the complete infrastructure now, the villagers' lives have been better quality and better guaranteed.

At the beginning, when we came, there were still many difficulties, one was communication, one was life, and another was convenient to see a doctor, but there were still great difficulties in language.
