The number of child abuse cases is expected to be revised; cases judged not to be child abuse will also be reported. It has been discovered that 20 local governments may have made inappropriate reports that did not comply with the national guidelines.

The national government is asking these local governments to correct the number of cases reported, and the published numbers are expected to decrease. The Children and Family Affairs Agency and the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare conducted a survey of 78 local governments, including prefectures and ordinance-designated cities.
