Firefighters are fighting a major fire in Sydney. Dozens of people had to be evacuated to safety because of the fire.
The fire raged in Elizabeth Street near Central Station in the Surry Hills district. Dense clouds of black smoke could be seen in the afternoon almost throughout the city, it was said. Numerous roads in the area were closed as a result of the blaze, according to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald and the 9News news channel. The blaze is in a multi-storey building in the centre of Sydney.
