Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to investigate whether PFAS is contained in domestically distributed food. This is the first time that the government has conducted a full-scale investigation into the presence of PFAS in distributed food products.

PFAS are organic fluorine compounds of which there are more than 10,000 types, three of which have been shown to be harmful and have been detected in rivers and tap water across Japan. The plan is to collect about 30 items each of five livestock products and five seafood items such as sardines and sweetfish.
