Seven members of the yachting club of a local high school who were participating in club activities on yachts and rubber boats off the coast of Otaru City, Hokkaido, were unable to return to the port due to strong winds. One of them was taken to hospital with suspected hypothermia, but none of them were injured.
The Japan Coast Guard urges people to check the weather in advance and be careful of marine accidents when going out to sea. The group were rescued after 4:2 p.m.
