Al Jazeera's camera monitored the long queues in which citizens from Deir al-Balah in the Gaza Strip formed for several hours to obtain a few loaves of bread. The Israeli bombing destroyed all the bakeries in the area, leaving only two working around the clock in an effort to meet the people’s needs.

The government media office in Gaza stated that only 15 bakeries are now operating in all of the southern Gaza Strip. The head of the Bakery Owners Association said that the real need is two million loaves.
