A patient support group and a Kyoto publishing company have decided to produce a photo book of people who have undergone breast reconstruction surgery. Breast cancer affects one in nine women, and surgery to reconstruct breasts that have been removed for treatment is covered by public health insurance.

Reconstruction methods include transplanting the patient's own fat or using silicone artificial breasts. Photographer Mika Ninagawa will be in charge of the shoot, and the organization will begin recruiting models on its website from February 1st. Mika Shinsui, president of Empowering Breast Cancer, an NPO that supports patients, said, ``I want many people to know that even if you lose your breast due to breast cancer, it is possible to reconstruct it properly''
