In order to spread awareness about surgery to reconstruct breasts lost due to breast cancer, a patient support group and a Kyoto publishing company have decided to produce a photo book of people who have undergone breast reconstruction surgery. We will start recruiting. Photographer Mika Ninagawa will be in charge of photography.

Breast cancer affects one in nine women, and surgery to reconstruct breasts that have been removed for treatment is covered by public health insurance.

Reconstruction methods include transplanting the patient's own fat or using silicone artificial breasts, but according to patient support groups, there are many inquiries from patients who are concerned about what will happen after reconstruction. It means that it will be done.

For this reason, the organization decided to work with a publisher in Kyoto to produce a photo book featuring people who had actually undergone breast reconstruction surgery.

Photographer Mika Ninagawa will be in charge of the shoot, and the organization will begin recruiting models on its website from February 1st.

Mika Shinsui, president of Empowering Breast Cancer, an NPO that supports patients, said, ``I want many people to know that even if you lose your breast due to breast cancer, it is possible to reconstruct it properly. ``I would be happy if people who saw the photo book decided to take a positive approach to treatment.''
