Three people, including an Iranian soldier, were killed at dawn on Friday by an airstrike attributed to Israel against the town of Banias, in north-west Syria. This is the first time that this city on the Mediterranean coast has been targeted by Israeli aircraft.

The official Iranian news agency Irna subsequently announced the “ martyr ” death of a member of the Revolutionary Guards, the regime’s ideological army. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said several civilians were injured by shards of glass and stone.
